A Moke car is a small, lightweight, four-wheeled vehicle that was first produced in the 1960s. The original Mini Moke was designed and manufactured by the British Motor Corporation and was intended for use as a utility vehicle for military and civilian customers. 

While it didn't prove to be great for military use, the "Californian" Mini Moke model became a cult classic in exclusive beach locations and pop culture when making an appearance in the 007 classic "Live and Let Die", with the theme song performed by the Beatles. 

​​An e-Moke is an electric version of the original Mini Moke car. It is powered by an electric motor and a battery pack and designed to be environmentally friendly, efficient, and easy to operate.  

A full charge will equal to approximately 35 miles. Keep in mind that the range on your Moke will depend in part on the load weight of the vehicle. For example 2 passengers will consume less battery than 4 people. Hilly conditions will also consume more battery than if you are driving your Moke on a relatively flat surface.

Due to its limited mileage to battery charge ratio, our Moke rental experiences do have mileage allotments based on which package you select. Out of courtesy to the guests who have rented after you, it is very important that you keep your Moke car rental to the allotted mileage stipulated in our agreement. 

All drivers must be at least 21 years old,  possess a valid driver's license and pass driver verification. 

Of course! As long as you are over 21 years old and can provide a valid driver's license from your country of residence and pass driver verification, you should have no problem renting a Moke from Moke & Sun. 

While rare, accidents can happen. Due to the fact that not all insurance providers will cover the Moke car rental, we require that all Moke rentals purchase commercial insurance with our third party carrier MBA (you will be prompted to add this on during the checkout process when booking your Moke rental).  

The fee per day is $20 and all drivers of the Moke will need to provide valid driver's license from your home country. 

You may also supply Moke & Sun with a copy of your own insurance policy in the event of an incident if you would prefer to go directly through your own insurance provider. 

The low-speed version of the Moke has a maximum speed of 25 mph and may only be driven on roads with maximum limit of 35 mph.

The Moke Electric Vehicle has safety belts for up to 4 persons. 

Children under the age of 3 are required to ride in a car seat which can easily be strapped in to the back seat of any Moke car. 

Children 4 and up must sit in their own seat with a seat belt, booster seat is recommended but not required.

Children are prohibited to ride on adult’s lap, this is illegal and unsafe.

Besides the ooh's and ahhh's from onlookers, your Moke car comes standard with a removable Bimini top, stereo with bluetooth, zero emissions and Moke & Sun's exclusively designed Digital Guidebook. 

Moke & Sun offers 2 hour, 3 hour, 5 hour and 8 hour self-guided tour packages for your Moke rental from Oceanside or Encinitas California. 

If you are staying with any of our partnered hotels which house our Moke car on-site, a 48 hour rental option may be available. 

We have various add-on options such as picnic baskets, aperitif packages and more depending on the location you are renting a Moke from. You will be able to explore these options more from the booking page. 

Certainly! Our online system will allow you to book up to 2 Moke cars (seating for 8)  depending on the location you wish to depart from.

Moke rentals which require 3 or more cars will need to be requested from Moke & Sun or the Groups & Events department at our partnered hotels. Group rentals are subject to availability. Surcharges may apply if we have to bring Moke in from another location.

Moke & Sun is happy to offer guided! We currently can accommodate groups up to 16 persons for self guided tours or 12 persons with a guide you will follow in their own Moke car who will communicate to you with walkie talkies and take you on a customized tour.
